JU Partners with Buffalo Wild Wings in West Millin! PDF Print E-mail

Jaguars United Soccer Association has recently partnered with Buffalo Wild Wings to participate in the Home Team Advantage Program.   This program is geared towards supporting local non-profit groups, including non-revenue earning sports associations.   The program is very simply and straight-forward.   Here is how it works:
- If you frequent Buffalo Wild Wings (West Mifflin location), all you need to do is mention that you are affiliated with Jaguars United Soccer Association and 10% of your bill will automatically be donated to our organization.  It is as simple as that.
- The program begins today and runs through January 2016 (14 months total).   At the end of the program, the organization will receive a single check from Buffalo Wild Wings reflective of 10% of the overall amount spent by JU members over that time.

Sportsmanship In Focus PDF Print E-mail

Good sportsmanship happens on both sides of the field. As a parent and a fan, you play an important role in establishing and maintaining good sportsmanship. Be a role model for your child by setting the tone of good sportsmanship before, during, and after the game.

Here are 4 ways you can practice good sportsmanship from the spectators side of the field.

1) Positive Cheering

TRY: Cheering with positive comments or noisemakers.

* Yah, Whoo Hoo, Way to go, Great try, Well done, nice job, etc.

*Wave towels, pom poms or signs, clap, stomp or ring cowbells or other noisemakers.

AVOID: Negative comments or coaching from the stands.

2)  Cheer For Everybody

TRY: Celebrate great efforts by both teams. Give opponents and opposing parents a sincere "good game" when the match is over.  Thank the official and coaches for a job well done.

AVOID:  Only cheering for your child.  Only talking about your son/daughter on the spectator's sideline.  Telling the coach how, when or where to play your child.

3)  Positive Post Game Discussion

TRY: Asking

*What was themost fun part of today's game?

*What was your favorite play?

*What did you learn from today's game?

AVOID:  PGA - Post Game Analysis

*You should have done this or that.

*Don't you think you should have...?

*Why didn't you...?

4) Keep Your Emotions In Check

TRY:  Being Calm

*Count to ten and take a deep breath.

*Wait at least a day before initiating any discussions with the coaches.

*See the big picture, not just the scoreboard.

AVOID: Being Over Emotional

*Yell and scream in an irrate or negative manner.

*Distract from the game with bad behavior on the spectator's sideline.

*Lose perspective.

These suggestions are offered in part by Positive Coaching Alliance, and when followed, will help to ensure and enjoyable experience for all involved.

Risk Management Update PDF Print E-mail
The state of Pennsylvania has changed the law pertaining to background checks on those working with youth.  As that is the case, all persons working with our youth in any capacity, must complete the following back ground checks.  Please note that these checks are required regardless of whether or not your pre-existing PA West clearance is up to date.
Please see the notice below from PA West regarding this issue.  It contains the links necessary to complete the process.  While specific details have been very limited to this point, there appear to be two options.
Option #1 - For those who have lived in PA at least 10 (ten) years. (Three items: State Police Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance and an Affidavit)
Option #2 - For those who have lived in PA less than 10 (ten) years. (Previous three items plus the FBI History Report)
Once you have completed the checks for the option that applies to you, you MUST provide proof of clear results to Glenn Bertha at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .  Those choosing to not complete either option above, or not able to provide completed paperwork will not be able to work with our youth members in any capacity.
Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.

Risk Management

State Law Change Affects All Clubs
The PA Child Protective Services Law changed recently.  The change requires all coaches and volunteers involved with youth organizations to complete a State Police Criminal Record Check and a PA Child Abuse History Clearance.  For those individuals who have not resided in PA continuously for the previous 10 years they must also complete an FBI Criminal Background Check.
PA West Soccer’s Risk Management Policy will be amended to comply with the changes in the law.  We will make the necessary adjustments to our on line Risk Management system to help manage this change.  PA West Soccer is committed to providing every player with the safest experience possible and as soon as we have the necessary changes in place we will share them.
Paid employees are immediately required to comply with the law.  While it's legally permissible for volunteers to wait until July 1, 2015 before completing the mandated clearances it is recommended that all individuals take the necessary steps to fulfill their obligation as soon as possible.

PA State Police Criminal Record Check Online Form ($10.00):
